„Violet Evergarden” is a high-rated anime with an unusual
for an anime topic, with wonderful animations, all while being accessible for wide
range of demographic. The main character- Violet- is an orphan used as a war
weapon, that is given to Major Gilbert, who tries his best to raise her and take
care of her. After their last battle, Violet loses her arms and Gilbert is
nowhere to be found, and Violet needs to start a new post-war life. She gets a
job of „auto memory doll”- a person that helps people put their emotions into a
letter- which turned out to be really hard to Violet, since she doesn’t
understand human’s emotion, because her whole life she was just doing other
people’s orders. So, Violet starts travelling the world, writing letters for
strangers to learn about human relationships and finally to understand Gilbert’s
last words- „I love you”. What is unique for this anime, is that it’s structure
is designed to every letter, so one episode contains singular story, that tugs
on heartstrings of a viewer. In conclusion, it’s a brilliant anime with a great
plot, full of beautiful stories and graphics and even voice acting. The show
also portrays a topic of a lost art- letter writing. In my opinion, the show leads
the viewer to a reflection on our nowaday way of communicating with others, and
show us how different and personal a letter is, in comparison to our everyday texting.

Seems like a pretty deep and multi-layered story.
